The only major codicil is that the two signals be line level outputs and neither one should be a speaker or headphone level as overloads can occur. This is a VERY common practice and works. Be sure the shield is intact and that the resistors are insulated from the shield. You can do this with the Y cable itself or with 2 short RCA to RCA cables plus a Y cable. This will require some wire work and soldering, but the 10K isolation between channels will buffer the outputs from each other. The best way to do this w/o a switch is to open the Y cable and insert a 10k resistor in series with each of the hot legs into the common output. Usually people want to mix L&R from a single device into a mono input such as a portable PA system playing back a CD or such., but your requirement is not too dissimilar. On the other hand this can be done with a little work and more than a Y cable.

For low level (line and headphone level) audio sources only. Two standard 3.5 mm stereo jacks for your audio outputs. One 3.5 mm stereo input jack for your audio source. The switch suggestion was the best and the switches are cheap. The MK-2 Audio Switch Box easily switches one audio source input to two separate outputs. Open Preferences > Audio, then click on the (Input Config) and ( Output Config) buttons to make sure that either all KA6 mono and stereo-pair boxes are enabled there. So check the following settings in Ableton Live: Click to expand. In general, it depends on the input/output (routing) setup in your DAW and which (mono or stereo) inputs are selected as Audio Track Input.Īs a side note: the Direct Monitoring Feature on the KA6 is hardwired and routes audio directly from inputs-1/2 to the selected outputs inside the unit (without going through any DAW/software on your computer):
